What is it, and what does Sleep Chronobiology cover?
Chronobiology, study of time in life , is the science that investigates the rhythmic phenomena of living beings, the so-called biological rhythms, and their multiple intraspecific and ecological relationships. Chronobiological studies allow us to understand organisms and their temporal interactions, which include a multiplicity of biological rhythms, such as behavioral, physiological, metabolic, gene expression, including the wake / sleep cycle, expressed in a circadian way in humans.
What is the purpose of the Sleep Chronobiology Council?
Scientific knowledge about biological rhythms allowed the development of sleep medicine throughout the twentieth century. Today we understand better the mechanisms of synchronization of biological rhythms and how the temporal challenges of everyday life impact on human health. So, the purpose of this council is to spread chronobiology as a fundamental area of sleep medicine, through actions and projects.
How does the Sleep Chronobiology professional act?
Chronobiology, studies the temporal interactions of the organism and its implications in the binomial health / disease, enabling the resolution of practical problems, such as those related to changes in the wake / sleep cycle. Thus, chronobiological knowledge can contribute to the understanding of temporal disorganization / organization and its impact on health, behavior and the appearance of diseases in the general population.
History of the formation of a professional in the field of Sleep Chronobiology
Chronobiology is an interdisciplinary discipline that studies biological rhythms in different contexts, from the individual (wake / sleep cycle) to the collective (sociotemporal organization of work), at the behavioral, physiological and molecular levels. Thus, the chronobiologist can have as training / performance area, both those related to Health Sciences as Human, Exact or Social. Several formal courses are offered, both in undergraduate and graduate programs, in addition to courses in congresses, or even institutional ones.
